Rohde & Schwarz optimizes TV networks for DVB-T and DVB-H

Rohde & Schwarz is introducing its new R&S XV7003 transposer system with which DVB-T and DVB-H networks can be efficiently expanded.

The system, which is made up of amplifiers from the tried-and-tested R&S SV7002 family of DTV low-power transmitters and the new Transposer R&S XV703, transposes received TV signals to the desired output channel in UHF bands IV and V.

An algorithm for echo cancelation allows the transposer system to operate in single-frequency networks. Thus, it is possible to fill network gaps or increase network density at specific locations without having to invest in costly infrastructure. This transposer system complements the family of digital TV low-power transmitters from Rohde & Schwarz. The Transposer R&S XV703 is a compact 19'' module of only one height unit. It handles all signal processing tasks for converting the received signal to the desired output frequency.

The input frequency range is 150 MHz to 900 MHz, and the output frequency range covers UHF bands V and VI. The transposer includes a downconverter, an IF processing unit with IF precorrection and an upconverter. Down- and upconversion are performed by double conversion and thus allow full frequency flexibility without requiring filter adjustment. The integrated SAW filter ensures high selectivity in adjacent channels.

The R&S XV703 can process every DVB-T/-H signal in all defined operating modes and in the 6 MHz, 7 MHz and 8 MHz bandwidths without requiring any modification of the hardware.

The R&S XV7003 transposer system uses the broadband amplifiers of the tried-and-tested Low-Power Transmitter Series R&S SV7002, which are available with output powers of 10 W, 25 W, 50 W and 100 W (Prms).

As with the uniform concept, the amplifiers therefore provide a high degree of flexibility in existing transmitter networks. By adding the echo cancellation option, you can also use the transposer system as a gap filler in single-frequency networks.

By eliminating unwanted couplings of the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna of the system, this function suppresses oscillations of the system and allows higher levels for gap filler applications.

For remote-control and monitoring, you can install an SNMP agent and easily connect it to existing network infrastructures.
